Flaw with patent law?

Math functions cannot be patented. Imagine sin, cos being patented, that'd be crazy right. Ironically computer programs can be patented. It has long been proved that computer programs are equivalent to mathematical functions. Does anyone realize its the same as patenting math functions?

  1. According to the US government, you can't patent a function that operates on abstract ideas, manipulate numbers from one form to another etc. and formulae that represent fundamental laws of nature. A program does more. If you had a program that was simply an implementation of an un-patentable algorithm or function, you wouldn't be able to patent the program either.
